Some useful tips for you before ordering your Made to Measure Curtains
1: Measuring Curtains: Please use a steel tape when measuring your curtains, as fabric tapes give a more inaccurate result. Other good ways to get exactly the right measurements is to measure your old curtains if you are replacing existing curtains.
2: We will automatically calculate the width of the curtains with our online ratio calculator! You only need to give us the width of your curtain pole or track. Please find measuring instructions for your curtains from here: How To Measure Curtains
3: When you are choosing your curtain fabric, please remember that the fabric will look darker in larger areas.
4: How wide will my curtains be? What does curtain fullness mean? How do we calculate the fullness when we make curtains for you? Please find below a guide for different fullness ratios for different curtain heading types.Read more about curtain fullness
5: We can use all our fabrics to make your desired curtains – unless stated otherwise. We have heavier fabrics for warmer curtains and sheer fabrics for airy/light curtains. If you want more body or functionality for your curtains, we recommend ordering curtains with lining. We have several different lining options to choose from.
6: Before making any decisions please order your free sample swatches of the curtain fabric, upholstery fabric or fabric for loose cover which you are considering. The photos on our website are close representation of the colours due to the different screen settings it is impossible to replicate the colours so they would be the same on every screen.
7: If you have an older house and looking for curtains to finish floor length, then we would advise measuring in 3 points for your final drop. This would be left, right and middle. This is due to some floors not being even in older houses.
Is linen good for curtains?
It is ideal fabric if you are after for a natural look and linen will not never go out of fashion. It drapes so beautifully – especially if you choose softer or pre-washed linen fabric for your curtains. Linen does not pill either. Relaxed curtains, which puddle on the floor look stunning – we can’t think better fabric for this look. However more refined curtains with more tailored heading like double pleat or wave heading which are just right length will look equally as gorgeous. Generally, curtains just look so much better when they are made of 100% natural fibre - artificial fibre which might even feel plasticky.
Do curtains made of linen block light?
There is many different weight linen fabrics. Heavier linen fabric will block most of the light even without a lining behind it. Medium weight fabrics will let some light through, but the texture of the fabric will look so charming against the light, and it is difficult to achieve that effect with any other fabric. However, with the curtain lining – you can either block all or most of the light out. Blackout lining is the right choice for you if you do not want any light to come through the fabric. Cotton lining lets in some light, but it is also quite effective blocking out the light.
Can you see through linen fabric curtains?

Linen fabric curtains versus synthetic fabric curtains
Many of the curtain fabrics found on the market today are made from synthetic materials such as nylon and polyester. Nylon and polyester curtain fabrics are made from petrochemicals, which are very polluting to the environment and one of the factors contributing to the global warming situation. These curtain fabrics are also non-biodegradable, which means they don't break down easily and so are difficult to dispose of. For example Nylon manufacturing process releases nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide is a greenhouse gas that is 310 times stronger than carbon dioxide and causes global warming.
Get a natural look for your curtains by avoiding fabric made from synthetic fibres or synthetic blends. Linen fabric was seen as a symbol of purity and luxury in the past – and it still noted s noted as the fabric of comfort and elegance. It has a beautiful texture which is at its best as curtains and against the light on the window.
Natural and eco-friendly curtains are made from linen. The processes by which the flax plant is transformed into fibre and curtain fabrics are eco-friendly. Artificial fibres such as viscose, bamboo or corn require energy and chemicals whereas flax and linen does not.
