What to Look for in Bed Linens?

5 Feb

With everyone going for a house renovation nowadays, it is quite evident that people are accepting changes gracefully worldwide. Not only the structure, furniture or paint colour, people are revamping their rooms by changing the bed linens and curtains too. A fine set of bed linen fabrics can change the whole appearance of the room. There are a few things to look for when you go to buy bed linens.

Firstly, look for linens that have elastic all round instead of only corners so that they do not pop up from the bed. The elastic holds them in place creating a neat and tidy look. The fabric of the linens should be of good quality like pure cotton or linen. They feel softer and cooler on the skin. They dry quickly and are absorbent. Although the cotton linens cost more than their polyester counterparts, these linens last longer and do not cause irritation like the polyester ones, which are warmer and uncomfortable. The polyester linens also tend to pill, creating tiny balls on its surface. This happens when the polyester linens are washed using detergent and the fibres loosen down that fuzz up to form these balls. Polyester or its blends do not provide any cooling effect compelling people to throw them away at the middle of the night.

Natural fabrics like the pure Egyptian cotton, Pima and Supima are some of the best ones for your bed linen. The thread count of a linen is an important aspect to check out. It is the number of threads that go up and down in one square inch of fabric. A 200 to 220 range count is quite acceptable for a daily use bed linen, UK homes can go for. The best count is 300 to 400 but many people even look for a thread count of 1000. Finally, the linens should be washed using a good quality detergent to avoid any damage.

So get a fine set of bed linen for your home today!
